About KSB
History
The Korea Racing Authority has played its role as the sole authority for thoroughbred registration in Korea since 1993, when the Rules and Requirements of Thoroughbred Registration were enacted by the government.
The establishment of the Korean Stud Book legitimizes Korea horse racing by raising it to international standard and gives the thoroughbred breeding industry grounds for expansion.
The Korean Stud Book is designed to meet the internationally-recognized standards of thoroughbreds. Any domestic-bred horse will not be considered as a thoroughbred unless it satisfies the Rules and Requirements of the Thoroughbred Registration and is qualified for entry into the Korean Stud Book.
The Korean Stud Book was approved by ISBC in 1998.
With the computerization of records, Korean Stud Book has an extensive website at : http://studbook.kra.co.kr where anyone can access detailed information about registration and pedigree and serve the online registration system.
The Korean Stud Book switched parentage verification technology from blood typing test to DNA test in 2003 to provide more reliable and accurate registration services and to keep pace with registration systems in other countries.
The Korean Stud Book was the first in introduction of microchipping horse identification system. The Korean Stud Book have implanted microchips into all racehorses and used them as an auxiliary tool for identification since 1993, and applied them to all thoroughbred born in Korea from 2005.
The KRA has played a key role as a member country of the Asian Stud Committee and held the 7th Asian Stud Book Conference during the 2005 Asian Racing Conference in May.
Now The Korean Stud Book and Seoul National University have collaborated in designing "Horse Genetic Evaluation System", which will be used to evaluate the quality level of domestic-bred horses each year and to establish a breeding stocks selection process on the basis of breeding value.
KRA will continuously expand the exchange with Stud book in other countries, and will maintain its reliability and accuracy of the registration system. Furthermore, the information of thoroughbred horse improvement and mating will be provided for the development of thoroughbred industry.
